Welcome to the GUITAR STORIES USA BLOG and if you are a true electric guitar fanatic, enthusiast, player, collector, and lover of all things electric guitar, then you are going to love this Blog and this site.
Yours truly, Rick Baker, has been playing the electric guitar devotedly since the age of 10, in 1976 (See..that's me to the right when I was about 12)! I played my first gig at age 11 in 1977 and from what I recall of the setlist, it was filled with many goodies from Peter Frampton, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac (you get it, the Top 40 of the day) along with of course, The Beatles.
Since that time, I have played about every type of music on my electric guitar at every type of venue imaginable; some better than others. But jamming on my 1966 Gibson SG and keeping the faith of my heros (Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend just to name a few) was all that mattered for many years...and still does. I just saw Keef and he is still unbelievable.
Now don't worry. This isn't going to be the soppy nostalgia train where I try to reclaim my youth (I just turned 49)...oh no, no, no! This is in the here and now man...where we can continue to celebrate together all that the electric guitar is and was, now and forever!
We're going to examine the classics, the legends, the axes that blew our minds and the cats that played them. We must keep the spirit of the electric guitar alive to inspire the next generation of guitar legends. And I want you to be a big part of that by emailing us and sending us photos and stories so we can feature you in the Member's gallery where we will award a monthly prize to the featured member of the month.
So buckle up, get ready and let's pay homage to the 20th century invention that was used to create the best music ever made!
The guitar story behind this beautiful 1958 Gibson Les Paul Custom is that it was purchased by Bob Marciante (Bob Marcy), an entertainer, guitarist drummer and mainstay performer in the Chicagoland area in 1958 from a friend who only had it a few months. Here’s where the story gets interesting...
