1958: The ES-335 Solves The Feedback Problem
The 335 (called that because it originally sold for $335 in 1958) was the true evolution guitar that solved a problem that had been plaguing Gibson for years: How to avoid the inevitable feedback from a hollow body Gibson with powerful new humbucker pickups?
The 335 was the solution, using a thin-line hollow body design with a block of maple running on the inside of the body solved the feedback dilemma once and for all. Now, the warm tones of Gibson’s hollow body guitars could come through at higher volumes and the Burst Killer was born.
